My father, Krishantha Cooray, is a man with a deep sense of responsibility (unless it means doing the dishes), a man filled with generosity and determination to be the best he can be. He’s the kind of person who, no matter how chaotic the situation, always strives to give his best—whether it’s for his family, friends, work, or even his country.
Thaththa can be described in many ways, but in my opinion, the most fitting description comes from Dulinda Perera: “Krishantha Cooray, A Man Worthy of Being Called a Hero.” Not only is he a hero, but a role model. He is the one who inspires me most and the one who will stick by me through thick and thin.
His existence has impacted countless lives, especially anyone fortunate enough to know him. His friend of over 30 years, Darshana Wathdura, describes him as: “Fun to be around, a good, genuine friend who will give you guaranteed stress at the end of the day.” Thaththa’s childhood friend Varuna Bothejue says “Krishantha can be described in 3 words: the most honest, loyal, passionate human being you can ever have in your life”.
If you know my father, you’ll know that he is a loud man who speaks in a rather vociferous manner. Some may say he has an intimidating personality, but if you know him well enough you would also know that, deep down, he’s a kind man with a heart made of gold.
Finally, happy birthday Thaththa, the most humble, the loudest and the most generous husband, friend and father!
